It is a cruel world, and not in some distant, abstract way people like to talk about when they want to feel thoughtful but untouched.
I mean here.
I mean now.
I mean the roads you drive, the towns you trust, the places with familiar names that are supposed to mean safety.
Because somewhere between Hartland and Moncton, between Fredericton and Saint John, between Woodstock and a highway that leads farther than anyone wants to admit, someone is being moved.
Not traveling.
Not leaving.
Being moved. Like they are not a person anymore, but a product with a destination.
And you feel it….at least some do….. Do not pretend you do not, certainly there are people here who care, yet I have physically met those and work with people who literally have no click nor clue and don’t want to because that would interrupt their lifestyle…. until it’s theirs who are gone!
Yet others! You have felt that moment, sharp, invasive, impossible to ignore where something inside you says this is wrong in a way that cannot be explained away. It cries out angrily for justice, swift and sure!
Yet; this is something broken, something allowed, something happening while people look directly at it and choose not to see.
You have thought about it…. those of us who care have definitely thought about it!
In the quiet. In the car. In the bathroom with the door locked. In the middle of the night when everything is still and your mind is not. You have imagined doing something.. anything.. because the idea of doing nothing feels like its own kind of guilt, technically it is guilt!
Children missing. Not misplaced:missing!
Lives interrupted mid sentence, families suspended in an endless space between hope and confirmation of loss. Days turning into searches. Nights turning into questions that do not have answers. Posters,Phone calls,Waiting, Always waiting.
Never forget that somewhere else, at the same time you’re thinking about it… , there is money being made. There are people who have turned suffering into structure, Routes into systems, Human beings into transactions__$$$$
Moncton to Montreal is not just a drive, it is a pipeline.
Saint John is not just a city,it is a passage.
Fredericton is not just a capital,it is a point along the way, and beyond that is distance, and silence, and disappearance that becomes harder to trace the farther it goes.. mile, by mile, by mile..And people know…. never forget the shoulders you rub at local grocery stores, auto dealers, burger shop, office buildings, that bar or even certain clubs…… they know and yes, quite a few profit from it…!
That is the part that should shake something loose inside of you… oddly enough, many people know, and still it happens because cash is king, or wifull blindness is bliss
There are doors that close on it.
There are conversations that stop short of naming it. There are excuses built carefully enough that they almost sound reasonable… seriously!!
until you remember what they are covering or what they are selling or hiding or profiting from. A child priced….. A body negotiated. Pain made optional for an extra fee, as if cruelty itself can be itemized and sold…. all because the “mother” has to pay for her drug habit…. And somewhere in that, someone stands by and lets it happen because survival, or addiction, or fear has ruled out out everything else… including empathy and worth!
YES some of you have felt the anger… someone other than me has felt that anger… That deep, unsettling anger that does not sit politely, or quietly…it makes your chest tight and your thoughts louder than you want them to be. The kind that asks a question no one seems willing to answer:
When does this stop? What are we going to do? When will someone just take out the trash?
When does someone step in??
Not just in social media posts, or shares and likes so they can feel important… not just in quiet outrage whispered where no one can hear… but in a way that actually interrupts what is happening?
Because saying “someone should do something” is easy.
It has always been easy. It creates just enough distance to feel like you have acknowledged the problem without stepping into it…. yet you’ll memorize your favorite coffee stop menu, or your favorite hockey teams roster or you’ll smoke your 420,and get drunk…. it’s easy to be an idiot! But the truth does not stay silent… It follows you, It sits with you, It waits in the silence after everything else fades out because YOU know this is happening…
Here…. right here, not just other places, but definitely other places…. yet Here!
It does not go away just because it is uncomfortable… just because you avoid it or go to Yogi Bear Park or St Andrews or Bass Pro Shop….So say it. Say all of it.
Say that it is wrong. Say that it is being ignored. Say that it should not be allowed to continue another day in the shadows of places that are supposed to be safe.
Because silence has never protected anyone…..
And somewhere right now, someone is still waiting for someone to notice, for someone to act, for someone to refuse to look away.
That is where this begins…. with refusing to stay quiet.
Yes you’ve thought about it! An ending to the ones who hurt, who steal lives, who destroy children…… yes you’ve thought about it!
