I do not reject most people too quickly.
I feel it fully. I let the empathy hit first. Then I sit with it until it stops being noise and starts being information.
What I feel is not what I decide.
Affective empathy is data, not a conclusion. I question it. I test it. I track patterns, not moments. I look at who benefits, who pays, and who is expected to stay quiet so others can stay comfortable.
People like to dismiss this as being overly emotional because it is easier than keeping up. Intensity is not impulsiveness. The ability to stay with discomfort and not rush to resolve it is what actually sharpens judgment. Avoidance creates shallow conclusions.
Endurance creates accurate ones.
By the time I say I do not like someone , it has already survived more scrutiny than most people are willing to give. It has had context. It has had patience. It has had every chance to justify itself. If it still does not hold, that is not my bias….. That is the result.
Most people smooth over dissonance to protect their comfort. I follow it until it exposes what is underneath. If something consistently protects the same people, costs the same people, and silences the same people, I am not going to pretend it is neutral just to make it easier to accept.
So no, it is not reaction. It is discernment with standards.
