Sexually Abused Seniors

Pocket Thoughts

It’s real, it happens all across America and Canada and beyond. I’ve lost a grandmother abused in such vile ways, and a grandfather murdered in a nursing home while wearing a straight jacket, at age 89 and it’s disgusting and angering. Yet so many are tossed in the system and left by their families. TRUTH!

To these I say:


To the older one who was hurt where they were supposed to be safe; what happened to you was not your fault.
Not even a little bit.

You were in a vulnerable position, and someone betrayed that trust. Your age does not make your pain less real. You are still worthy of safety, dignity, and care.

When pain and shame whisper, “You should have stopped it,” remind yourself: “I was harmed by someone who was supposed to care for me. That is on them, not on me.”

If you are mentally and verbally able:


You are allowed to tell.
You are allowed to report it.
You are allowed to ask for different caregivers, different routines, different rooms.


You are allowed to say, “This person cannot touch me,” and have that respected.


Like an old tree that has stood through many storms, you have earned rest, respect, and peace. What happened to you does not erase that.
