Louisiana tears of the Sun

It was an ordinary Louisiana day, the kind that begins quietly beneath a broad blue sky. We moved gently through our work, putting things in place, gathering what was needed, and sharing the small moments that make a day feel full. A soft breeze moved through the air, carrying the sweetness of honeysuckle and the clean warmth of the rich full land. Nearby, magnolia blossoms rested in the morning light, their pale petals soft against the green leaves.

Then Riley Woodell smiled, and everything around us seemed to change. Her smile was not simply beautiful; it carried warmth, kindness, and a joy that reached everyone who saw it. It felt like the first light of morning spreading over the Louisiana swamps and canals , quiet but impossible to miss. For a moment, the cottonwood leaves seemed to hush, the clouds drifted more slowly overhead, and even the wildflowers appeared to lean closer, as though the whole world wanted to share in her happiness.

Then we noticed something falling to the floor. There was no leak in the roof and no broken pipe nearby. When we listened closely, we heard a soft sound of weeping. We opened the door and looked into the sky, where the golden sun seemed to be shedding tears. When someone asked why it was crying, the sun answered that it had spent all its days trying to shine brightly and warm the hearts of the world, but it had never seen a smile like Riley’s. Her joy, it said, reached places even sunlight could not.

Like honeysuckle climbing in the summer, magnolias blooming in the warmth, and a gentle bayou lafourche breeze passing through the trees, her smile is a blessing. It reminds us that the most beautiful light in the world is often found in the simple goodness of a person who makes others feel seen, welcomed, and loved.

thank you Riley for the pictures…. you’re absolutely awesome…
